Kochi Metro Rail Limited has received Indian Green Building Council’s (IGBC) Green Certification for its Corporate Office at JLN Station.
Kochi Metro earned the prestigious IGBC Platinum rating by scoring a whopping 86 points out of 100 points.
The IGBC in the official recommendation has commented that the Corporate office is one of the best case studies where a government office can be energy efficient, with optimised design parameters of a platinum rated building.
Now all our metro stations, Operations Command Center at Muttom and Corporate Office are IGBC certified. Our new office is green, energy and water efficient. We have focussed on using green rated materials
said KMRL MD Alkesh Kumar Sharma IAS.
KMRL moved to the new corporate office in December 2019 to JLN Stadium at Kaloor. The new office is designed to maximise views and natural lighting to the occupants.
The spaces have been designed to bring in natural lighting to the office spaces. KMRL has used Green rated materials of high standard for the partitions, flooring, wall panelling, false ceiling and eco-certified furniture fit-outs.
KMRL has also provided abundant green plants at each workstation adding to the work atmosphere and air quality. KMRL has installed sanitarywares with a plan to save 32.8 percent of water.
The IGBC has launched IGBC Green Mass Rapid TransitSystem (MRTS) rating to encourage green concepts in the design, construction & operation of all new Rail based MRTS projects. The rating system helps to address the best site selection and National priorities like conserving natural resources, demand side energy & water efficiency, adoption of renewable energy, waste management, management of commuter health and comfort.
IGBC is the country’s premier body for green building certification and allied services. The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) was formed by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 2001. The vision of the IGBC is to enable ‘Sustainable built environment for all.
